Kristen Finlay is an Australian artist based in Coffs Harbour, NSW.

Her work centres mainly on still life, botanical subjects and familiar objects, with a particular focus on colour, light and the beauty found in ordinary things.

Working primarily in acrylic and sometimes oil, Kristen paints from observation while allowing room for simplification, movement and interpretation. Rather than describing every detail, she looks for the shapes, colour relationships and gestures that give a subject its character.

Her background in abstraction continues to inform the work through composition, space, visual weight and the way areas of colour interact. Forms may soften into their surroundings, edges remain loose and unexpected marks are allowed to become part of the painting.

The result is work that feels observed but not overly resolved—grounded in the everyday, with colour always at its heart.
